About the event

This is a ritual of honouring the worlds of our blood linage and the world that we call home. We dance on the lands of the ancient Wurundjeri people. The oldest living culture in the world, one that must be met by respect and reverence. Down here they have their own ceremony, their own song and language that has been here since time began, since the dreaming. How do we honour this whilst also honouring our own ancient ones…

Earthdance is a space to gather in dance, in circle to reconnect and remember our origins in a way that integrates the present day… the lands that hold us. How do we move in relationship with place. How do return to our belonging, how does our longing move us…

New year, New offerings…

My time in my ancestral lands has really sparked in me this deep yearning of bringing the two worlds together. I don’t mean the cultures, I mean within us colonised beings, how do we hold both worlds… the world of our ancestors and the world of this country. How do we embrace both without colonising, without shaming, without suppressing…

In the north it is the deep winter, where the first rays of spring begin to shine. It’s Imbolc, the time of Brigid, the time of weilding the last of the winter and bringing through the spring.

Down here in the south, we are in the polar opposite season with the God Lugh who holds the warmth and light of the sun. But… this country and the custodians of this country are in old man sun season, the height of summer, a time of big ceremony, song and dance. A time of prosperity. (This information has come from Kulin Tales by Sonia Marie)

So with all of this… how is your inner dance?

With whom do you dance?

Which ancestors speak to you?

What calls to you?

While we hunger for the ancient presence of this culture… how can we respectfully be here without suppressing our own ancient ones…

How do we honour both worlds?

When ever I have questions…

I don’t seek definitive answers…

I seek peoples stories

So come… come share your story, through dance and fireside sharing.

More about EARTHDANCE

First conceived and danced in central Australia, Earthdance is an embodiment practice that deepens our connection to the Earth through circle and dance. In ritual we come back to the heart of our humanity, returning to reverence.

The journey begins with an embodied meditation of acknowledgement to pay our respects to Custodians and Country. We begin in circle with our intention and what is on our heart, from this space we dance. With both live music and earthy beats we dance a freeform dance and end in circle to reflect and connect.

ABOUT KARLA

Karla is a healer committed to creating sacred spaces for people to connect and remember their wild nature within.

With over a decade of training and initiations in traditional healing and Shamanic practice, she holds space with a deep appreciation for land and culture. Deeply integrated with a background in paramedicine, Karla has a lived experience of what it is to humbly serve humanity. She is also a spoken word artist and writer, naturally infusing inspiration and deep enquiry as she facilitates, speaking intuitively to what arises in the moment.

As an activist for country and custodians, Karla balances these ceremonial spaces with the acknowledgement of country and the reality of a stolen and traumatised land and people. Connecting people back to their Indigenous roots is at the heart of her practice as a healer and facilitator.

“Belonging means reciprocity and responsibility”

What do people say about it?

Earthdance is a very sacred, special heart connected event. I felt completely comfortable and held by Karla’s genuine, warm gentle spirit. Her presence and grace as a facilitator is so welcoming.

- Sorell

Each time I have had the joy of participating in Earthdance I have been opened up to the opportunity to really feel present in my body. The combination of dance, stillness and gentle moving meditation gave me a chance to experience what I have been struggling with mentally and emotionally.

-Alice

"What a beautiful experience! I have been to two of Karla’s Earthdance events. Karla is such a calm and comforting facilitator, she allowed me to really open up and make the most of the ceremony. I truely recommend that you try it for yourself. Thank you so much Karla for your commitment to creating an environment like this! It’s truely magical."
